The concept of a Cardassian Starfleet officer has been on my mind since the episode 'Parallels' of Star Trek: The Next Generation. Once Deep Space 9 came out the narrative prospects of that alternate reality (where the Bajorans overpowered the Cardassian Empire and occupied it) became more apparent.
